The Thread That Binds: The Mostly Monograms Story
Back in the vibrant 1970s, when disco ruled the airwaves and bell bottoms were all the rage, Jill McNamara was busy stitching her own path forward—quite literally. While her college classmates were hitting the books, Jill was threading her first embroidery machine, turning her dorm room into a mini studio of color, fabric, and flair.
What started as a hobby quickly blossomed into a passion, and before long, Jill was monogramming everything from towels to tote bags, all with her signature blend of Southern charm and meticulous craftsmanship. Friends, classmates, and professors became loyal customers, drawn to the personalized touches that made each item feel special—made with care, made to last, and made just for them.
And so, Mostly Monograms was born.
For decades, Jill built a reputation for quality and creativity, running the business with heart and hustle while raising a family in the DC area. Her designs adorned everything from wedding linens to baby blankets, and each stitch told a story. But the most enduring legacy she created wasn’t just in fabric—it was in the next generation.
Creativity runs deep in the McNamara family. All three of Jill’s daughters have inherited her entrepreneurial spark, each finding her own way to bring beauty and originality into the world.
Caitlin Chalke is now stepping into the world of monogramming, learning from her mother’s decades of experience while bringing fresh ideas and a modern flair to the business. With a passion for design and a love of personalized gifts, she’s helping grow Mostly Monograms into a new era—where tradition meets trend, and every detail matters.
Her sister Meaghan Larsen channels her talents through Creative Meaghan, crafting vibrant, joyful pieces that celebrate color, whimsy, and the art of everyday beauty. Whether it’s a custom painting or a handmade gift, Meaghan’s work reflects the same dedication to craft and personality that’s always defined their family.
And then there’s Molly Hugo, the founder of MoCoMahjong, who’s turned her love of connection and creativity into something playful and unexpected. With custom-designed mahjong tiles and accessories, Molly’s work brings people together around the table—with style, strategy, and a whole lot of fun.
Each sister has carved her own creative path, but they’re united by the same foundation: a love for making, a joy in the process, and a belief that the best things in life are crafted with heart.
From thread to paint to tile, the McNamara women are makers through and through—and Mostly Monograms is where it all began.
